The Art of Play

When I started this blog last year, it was with the intent to post regularly about my adventures. I ended up experiencing a wide range of adventures, both planned and unexpected, was gone more than I was at home, and took thousands of photos. Writing fell by the wayside, needless to say. As I now sort through the photos and recount the adventures and stories, this blog has been calling to me while patiently waiting for me to return. So, let's get started...

I ended 2023 and started 2024 at a very exclusive resort. I was basically on retreat all of December and most of January. There was a nice balance of time for both activity and relaxation. The focus was on fun, play, and creativity. There were daily workshops and classes, as well as time for naps and reading, and a wide variety of snacks at snack time. As it was an all inclusive resort, meals and activities were included, and as it was a small group, it was fun to do everything together and build long lasting relationships. Following is my review of the resort and its instructors.

The Instructors / Workshop leaders:

Very experienced in the art of play, however could be unpredictable, and were constantly changing and revising the scheduled activities. They were also much more accommodating after naptime and meals. During reading time they insisted on selecting what would be read, how it would be read, and how many times it would be read.

The Workshops / Classes:

There was a huge emphasis on Lego, crayons, watercolors, and playdough. Sometimes you were allowed to create on your own, but usually there was specific instruction as to what was to be created and how it was to be done....

There was also a special one-off class on building a race car.

Outdoor activities included racing vehicles, chalk art, pool noodle creativity, spin class, batting practice, and the occasional picnic.

There were also cooking classes and a few science classes - one on aerodynamics, and one on hair and static electricity.

There were some offsite activities, weather permitting, which included climbing, swinging and sliding.

Oh, and sometimes you get to wear exclusive art designs created by the workshop leaders.

All in all, it was an excellent retreat, and I've made reservations for multiple visits this year.
